Attribute Validation Services are a critical cornerstone of secure, privacy-preserving digital identity management, offering a reliable way to validate user attributes, reduce fraud, and improve access control. The authors of the NIST IR 8480 Attribute Validation Services (AVS) for Identity Management report will provide a brief overview of the current state of AVS technologies in the federal government and considerations for establishing an AVS, and will explore the emerging User Controlled Verified Attributes (UCVA) architecture. UCVAs, which include mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs) and verifiable credentials, will give users greater access to and control over their information in a way that will enable both secure online and in-person data sharing while improving privacy and reducing fraud.
